Finally, my company event was over. Like what some of my colleagues said, this was one of the enjoyable event they had so far. Not sure if that's a compliment or a comforting remarks. Anyway, I must say I've learnt alot being the organiser of this event.
1. Never lose your temper. Once you lose your temper and patient, you may spoil the mood of others and screw up the whole event. Be kind to all remarks and explain patiently.
2. Holding the crowd. The programme have to be interesting to hold the crowd through the event. Subsequently, the organiser have to be jovial and think of ways to capture the crowd attention.
3. Flexible. Any event would never be carried out perfectly according to your plan. Therefore, be calm, analyse the situation, control the crowd and react.
4. Always give proper instructions. Being the leader, its important to give proper instructions for people to follow. Knowing the rules of thumb is important for players to win the games.
5. Be meticulous to matters where money is concern. There is always a budget constraint to organise an event. Thus, always work within your budget and record all 'in & out' of cash.
6. Prepare a checklist. To avoid any missing items, work out a checklist. With a checklist, it also helps to save unnecessary cost.
7. Setting standards. There should be a standard set between the prizes and the lucky draws. If there is no difference, it might dampen the spirit and people may show no interest in future.
In fact, the McDonald was pretty a mess. Instead of distributing the money out to team leaders to place order and pay, I should have just order the total no. of sets and pay. Afterall, its the same, so why bother to go through an additional step. Thats where I'm inflexible.
I really kowtow to Ailing for her good leadership. She has the charisma to influence and lead others. She is calm and magnanimous towards all negative remarks. Unlike me, I would have throw my frustration and screw up the whole thing. ha! During the second day of the event, the crowd was lesser and she divided one team evenly to join others and re-shuffled the prizes. I wouldn't have thought of that and may just stick to my plan. Again, i failed to react to circumstances.
In addition, both Huifan and I were astonished that she's able to hold her son, give instructions, control and lead the games splendidly. If I'm in her shoes, I would have been so annoyed. Its like, 'don't disturb me and get outta my way'. I know its very bad of me. I know.
Nonetheless, its was over. I'm glad to see a smile wore on everyone's face. Perhaps not everyone. But it doesnt matters. Also, I saw the truth character of some colleagues - unexpected behaviour. ha! At the end of day, its the values of lessons learnt and the bonding that I have made with my colleagues.
Though organising is tiring, I really enjoyed everything.
